A show depicting the lives of East Enders of
yesteryear has been a big hit with audiences in Norway.
Gavin Skerritt, a fifth generation Cockney himself, performed
EASTENDA – a play charting the lives of people living
in the East End – to audiences in Kristiansand.
All performances were sold out in the city, which itself has
a dock and seafaring history. Gavin said the audience strongly
identified with the characters featured in the play.
Gavin Skerritt
said he was “delighted with the response and is looking
to returning to Norway with future productions.
His show tells the story of a family in the East End through
the last century, punctuated with references to major events
that shaped the area.
His first performances were at The Museum in Docklands, West
India Quay, in March, and so impressed a member of his audience
that he was invited to Norway.
And it seems his fame is spreading even further – Gavin
now plans to take the shows to Holland and India next year.
Gavin has been commissioned by the Puppet Centre Trust to work
on a project matching puppeteers and writers to produce work
for a rehearsed reading premiere at the Soho Theatre in February.
