A Newham show that brings the East End of the
past to life is going to Norway.
EASTENDA, as
performed by Gavin Skerritt – fifth generation East Ender
– has been so well received here that he has been asked
to take it to the land of fjords.
His show tells the story of a family in the East End through
the last century, punctuated with references to events, which
have shaped the area – such as the building of the Royal
Docks, the Silvertown explosion and World War Two.
Gavin, who
lives in Churchill Road, Custom House, has drawn on the experiences
of grandparents, great-grandparents and other elderly relatives,
all of whom had first-hand knowledge of the changes that moulded
the East End.
A member of the audience during the march 18th show at The Museum
in Docklands was so impressed by EASTENDA that they asked Gavin
to take the show to Scandinavia.
Gavin said he is very excited that his production featuring
the words and stories of Newham folk is transferring to Norway.
He will be performing four shows at the Agder Theatre in Kristiansand,
Norway.
“I think it is going to be really great, especially having
done the performance at the museum and received a really good
response.”
Gavin said he was particularly pleased that many of the audience
members could identify with the voices and characters featured
in the show.
