Animation Dance Project
Work commences this summer on Gavin Skerritt's new project involving dance and animation. The summer will be spent experimenting with the making aspects of the project in Gavin's workshop in the Docklands, London. After this period of research a collaboration will begin between Gavin and Jonathan Watkins of The Royal Ballet. This work is being mentored by Wayne McGregor, Director of Random Dance and Resident Choreographer to The Royal Ballet.
"It seems an entirely natural progression to choose to collaborate with a dancer. On all of my past productions there have been dancers present in the early stages of development. I find the dancer's “eye” to be in tune with my own, unafraid of "performance" without the spoken word to drive the narrative. The dancer also has an understanding of how to deconstruct the object/puppet through movement in order for it to find a language and voice. I have for sometime had the idea of creating a piece which bring together the dancer and puppet both physically and conceptually. There is also a curiosity in me to see how the puppeteer works with the dancer in the manipulation and aesthetics of a performance."
